Travel Tips and Information for McKinney National Airport Passengers

Preparing Travelers for First Flights through DTX: Check Flight Status Before Heading to the Airport, Arrive 90 Minutes Early, and Bring Documents for Security Screening

McKINNEY, Texas (Nov. 4, 2026) — McKinney National Airport (DTX) is preparing to launch a new era in aviation for the North Texas region. Locals and visitors will experience a new and easier way to travel through DTX’s newly constructed passenger terminal and Avelo Airlines’ first flights on Nov. 11, 2026, and beyond. While booking flights and packing and planning for how to get to DTX, passengers are asked to review information and travel tips to enjoy easy and smooth travels through their local airport.

“DTX” Airport Code

When booking flights from and to McKinney National Airport, “DTX,” the code assigned by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), will appear on airline websites and booking portals, boarding passes and checked-baggage tags, and on travel itinerary emails and receipts.

Passenger Terminal Address

The McKinney National Airport passenger terminal is located at 1910 FM 546, McKinney, TX 75069. Travelers can navigate to the terminal via smart phones. Directional signage on roadways leading to the airport also supports way finding.

Check Flight Status

Before heading to the airport, passengers are asked to check Avelo Airlines’ latest flight departure and arrival times on the carrier’s app or by visiting AveloAir.com. Scheduled flight times can change due to weather across the country, air traffic control, aircraft readiness, and other situations beyond the control of airport and airline professionals.

Airport Arrival Time

  • Passengers should arrive to the airport 90 minutes before their flight departure time. This allows for: traffic in and around the airport roadways during peak commute hours; motorists unfamiliar with navigating their way along airport roadways; and travelers planning to use on-airport parking.
  • Avelo Airlines requires checked bags be left at the ticket counter at least 40 minutes before flight departure to allow time for loading onto the flight.

On-Airport Parking

  • DTX offers a single, accessible 980-space parking lot with electric-vehicle chargers, conveniently located across from the terminal and no shuttle ride required.
  • At just $15 a day for parking between two and 24 hours, DTX’s parking rate costs less than other North Texas airports. The ticketless parking system allows customers to pay with ease by using a mobile payment platform and license plate recognition cameras to expedite arrival and departure from the airport.
  • Entering and exiting the parking lot is as easy as park, scan, register, and exit:
    • Enter the parking lot — the gate will automatically raise to enter
    • Scan the QR code on the Tap ‘n Fly signage in the parking lot and in the terminal with a mobile phone camera
    • Register the vehicle by entering the license plate number and customer’s phone number
    • Choose a payment method: Apple Pay, Google Pay, a stored credit card, or entering credit card details, and
    • Exit the parking lot and payment is processed automatically.
  • Faster entry and exit, reduced waiting times, and ticketless convenience mean less hassle and no more lost parking tickets.
  • 24/7 customer service — contact live support with questions 24 hours a day through intercoms at all parking lot entry and exit kiosks.

Security Screening

  • The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) provides screening for DTX passengers and their checked and carry-on bags. Travelers that haven’t traveled by air recently are reminded the TSA requires every passenger to verify their identity by presenting a REAL ID or valid passport at security screening. Another option is the fee-based TSA ConfirmID.
  • Learn more about documents required at security screening, packing information for checked and carry-on baggage, and guidance for traveling with pets* and service animals by visiting TSA.gov.

Traveler Amenities

Concessions

  • Passengers can purchase snacks and drinks from an interim kiosk and travel essentials from vending machines, all in the boarding gates area. A full-service concession and bar is coming soon, with grab-and-go eats and drinks.
  • Water refill stations are located outside all terminal restrooms.

Free Wi-Fi and Charging

  • DTX offers free Wi-Fi service in all areas of the terminal. Check the latest news, download a favorite movie or book for the flight, or give DTX’s social pages a follow.
  • Free charging ports are available within the seats at the boarding gates.

Restrooms

  • Restrooms, including family restrooms, are located in both the boarding gates area and next to bag claim.
  • A room for nursing parents is also offered in the boarding gates area.

Pet Relief Area

A pet relief area at the boarding gates allows passengers to care for their pets* and service animals without leaving the terminal.

Arriving travelers have ground transportation choices for continuing their journey from DTX:
